Philosophy 

Helix Counseling and Consultation Services attempts to understand Substance Use Disorder (addiction) from a bio-psychosocial perspective. Understanding this perspective, we believe recovery is a life-long process which affects all areas of life. We believe that the client is in charge of their treatment and recovery, and we recognize that an eclectic perspective is important in the personalized treatment plan of our clients where Person Centered Therapy is most effective.

A holistic approach from a bio-psychosocial perspective takes into consideration the client from the inside out. Here at Helix Counseling services, we believe in setting new behavioral patterns where the client looks at their life from multiple perspectives, including the family unit, multiple relationships, environmental factors, social factors and psychological factors. Within this model, we encourage our clients to utilize newly learned skills to cope with a new way of life by performing new behaviors. Change model works slow yet steady, where behavioral change takes place.

We also strongly believe substance use disorder has strong roots within the family. For this reason, it is imperative that, and an important aspect of treatment is to work side by side with the family, to inform the family and to take into consideration their understanding and experience of the issue. This aspect of treatment is a vital part of treatment and becomes even a more important part of recovery after treatment is completed.

Journey 

Our approach is client centered, in a wrap-around, safe, and supportive environment as we start the process of change together. In an effective way, we facilitate change, help our clients create healthy environments and learn to repair damaged relationships. Our services consist of:

• Individual therapy
• Group therapy
• Psycho/education for client and family
• Cognitive education regarding to substance use and recovery
• Relapse prevention and intervention
• Personal growth in the areas of goal setting and future planning

Treatment Packages

• 16 session treatment plan that is designed based on individual client needs. During this time, our treatment plan will focus on both the strengths and weakness of our clients in order for them to be most successful in their recovery. We strongly believe in supportive services alongside treatment. We believe recovery is a life long process where supportive services are most important. That being family, work environment and both professional and supportive services such as private counseling and groups like NA, AA, etc. Structure in treatment is key in developing strong life skills, and for this reason, we are very confident in our 16-session recovery treatment plan. ​​  
• 6 session 90 minute family plan that is designed to work with the family while the individual is in treatment. We recognize and wholeheartedly believe that when the family is also learning and growing in treatment, it make all the difference in the sobriety journey of their loved ones. Here we discuss key issues such as communication style, language of love within the family, family roles, fighting styles, the importance of support groups and so on. Most often when families engage in treatment, they realize the important role they have in this path. ​
